A Letter from the Principal
To all of the members of The Richland One Learning Center Family:

Welcome to the new Richland One Learning Center. After many years of dreaming, actualizing and planning, we have finally reached one of our most important goals of creating a multi service educational facility and school. A new journey has begun. In the fall of 2001, Superintendent Ronald Epps declared and issued an omnipotent challenge to every working member of Richland District One. He challenged each of us to look closer at our schools to find the many qualities that make our learning enterprise one of the best in the state of South Carolina. Dr. Epps characterized those qualities as miracles. This trademark later became known to all of us as “The Year of Miracles”. I believe the learning center is one such miracle. With the help of some of the most brilliant minds in our school system, communities and business constituencies, the Richland One Learning Center was created.

Our major purpose is to serve all students who attend regardless of their academic and social risk factors. Our success is predicated on the notion that each of us possess unique talents. I challenge each of us to bring these talents to the classrooms, labs, courts, and to the minds of our students who depend on our dedication. The task at hand is not an impossible one. However, it will take raising the bar for academic expectations for all students. Carl Boyd a national renowned educator, entertainer and scholar wrote in his book The Last of the Old School Educators “ No One Rises To Low Expectations”. We must pick the students up from where they are and take them where they never thought they would have an opportunity to go. We will show our students bright stars, and blue skies and peaceful horizons through relentless passion and tough love. We will teach them all “By Any Means Necessary”. As we all know success does not come without risk. Three years ago I outlined six very important opportunity risks we must be willing to take before we challenge students to get over the bar we have raised.
